Vietnam’s largest non-tariff seaport zone kicked off in Haiphong

The US$469-million Xuan Cau Industrial and Non-Tariff Cluster is located at Lach Huyen Deep Sea Port in the northern port city of Haiphong.

The Xuan Cau Industrial and Non-Tariff Cluster is urged to be able to compete with Vietnam-Singapore industrial parks (VSIPs) and other foreign investors’ industrial zones in Vietnam, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said at the groundbreaking ceremony of the project on May 13.

Speaking at the event, the Prime Minister highly appreciated the Xuan Cau Industrial Park and Non-Tariff Zone and asked state agencies and local authorities to support and facilitate the project, urging them to simplify administrative procedures and remove obstacles to help the investor meet the construction deadline with international standards.

Invested by Vietnamese firm, Xuan Cau-Lach Huyen Investment JSC, the project covers 369 hectares of industrial production areas and 173 hectares of warehousing and logistics service areas in Dinh Vu-Cat Hai Economic Zone. According to the Haiphong City People's Committee, the seaport industrial park will play a logistics role for Lach Huyen Port, which can handle container ships of up to 150,000 DWT.

The first phase is expected to be completed in 2025 and will employ about 50,000 workers.

The city’s authorities expected the industrial cluster will attract the world's leading shipping and logistics firms and boost foreign direct investment (FDI) attraction, partly promoting socio-economic development of the city and the whole country.
