Vovinam Dance Contest 2025 kicks off in Hanoi

The four-month competition helps everyone understand one of Vietnam's intangible heritages.

THE HANOI TIMES — The Vovinam Dance 2025 Contest, which will kick off in April, will serve as a dynamic platform for both Vietnamese and international martial arts practitioners, strengthening the spirit of unity and national pride..

Jointly organized by the Vietnam Vovinam Federation and Hanoi Radio and Television, the event combines sports and music to create a unique cultural experience.

This four-month competition is the first of its kind to celebrate the 50th anniversary of National Reunification (April 30, 1975-2025) and the 80th anniversary of Vietnam's National Day (September 2, 1945-2025) through sports and culture.

According to Nguyen Tien Dung, Deputy General Director of Hanoi Radio and Television, the Vovinam Dance 2025 Contest offers a creative form of performance where the spirit of martial arts is combined with arts.

Vice President of the World Vovinam Federation, Master Tran Van My, stated that the competition provides a venue for all Vovinam students to showcase their skills and honor the martial arts spirit, strong will, and harmonious fusion of art and martial arts. In addition, it's a great opportunity for Vovinam students worldwide to interact, learn and, contribute, which will help this discipline become more cohesive.

Bach Ngoc Chien, Chairman of the Hanoi Vovinam Federation, claims that the competition is an example of creativity and innovation in sports and physical training activities. The combination of martial arts and music provides a healthy entertainment program for a wide range of people, especially students.

The competition is open to elementary, middle, and high school students worldwide as individuals or groups of 10.

There will be two rounds of the competition, including the qualifying round in the form of online on the platform https://vovinam.digital/, from April 1 to July 31. Individual contestants will submit creative performances based on the music of the song Noi giong Tien Rong (Descended from Dragon and Fairy). Group contestants will compete with two performances, one to the music of Descended from Dragon and Fairy and another freestyle performance that encourages the combination of martial arts and dance.

The final round will be held on August 24, with a Vovinam music performance event that will bring together teams, students, and Vovinam students.

Professional Vovinam teams will perform at typical locations in the capital, such as the Thang Long Imperial Citadel, Hanoi Opera House Square, Hoan Kiem Pedestrian Zone and the Old Quarter. The program will be broadcast live on the digital platform of Hanoi Radio and Television.

The organizing board hopes that the event will be held annually and help students develop their creativity and passion for martial arts while promoting Vovinam, a martial art with a strong Vietnamese identity. Vovinam Dance is a creative, modern version of Vovinam, a traditional Vietnamese martial art founded by Master Nguyen Loc in 1938.
