African media applauds Vietnam’s progress in agriculture and trade

Vietnam has been praised for its remarkable progress in nearly 40 years of renewal as a predominantly agricultural country, with over 60% of its population living in rural areas.

THE HANOI TIMES — Vietnam’s agricultural sector has been spotlighted as a model for rural and agricultural development by Cresus, a leading Algerian business newspaper, in its July 19 issue.

Based on a model of local values, community value chains, and global trade, the country exported $62.5 billion worth of agricultural, forestry, and fishery products in 2024, and the figure reached $33.84 billion in the first half of 2025, up 15% year-on-year.

In its article titled "A Transition towards Modernity and Sustainability," the authors stressed the impact of Vietnam's One Commune, One Product (OCOP) program on rural growth. They also welcomed Vietnam's commitment to South-South cooperation, which is based on the four pillars proposed by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).

Cresus expects Vietnam to share its green farming practices, climate response strategies, and emission reduction techniques.

The paper also praised Vietnam’s halal export potential and the launch of a direct flight to Africa, which could boost trade and cultural exchange. Cresus described Vietnam as a trusted partner ready to share its expertise in poverty reduction, reform, and development.

In this context, the high-level visits of Chairman of the National Assembly of Vietnam, Tran Thanh Man, to some African countries at the end of July 2025 are expected to be a catalyst for reviving historical ties and opening up prospects for in-depth cooperation in the years to come.

Along with strengthening parliamentary cooperation, the visits promote people-to-people exchanges and demonstrate the Vietnamese people's sincerity in their desire to strengthen relations of friendship and multifaceted cooperation with their African counterparts.
