Apartment fire in Ho Chi Minh City kills eight

Eight people perished in a fire that broke out in an apartment in Ho Chi Minh City on July 6, prompting an urgent investigation and calls for stricter fire safety regulations.

THE HANOI TIMES — Eight people were killed when a fire broke out on the ground floor of the Doc Lap apartment building on Do Doc Long Street in Tan Son Nhut Ward (formerly Tan Phu District) in Ho Chi Minh City on the night of July 6.

According to witnesses, they attempted to rescue those inside, but the fire swept through the building so quickly that it was difficult to access the affected apartments.

By early morning on July 7, local authorities and the Ho Chi Minh City Police Department had cordoned off the area and launched an investigation. The identities of the victims have not yet been released. This is considered one of the deadliest residential fires in the city so far this year.

On July 7, Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh signed Official Telegram No. 105/CD-TTg, urging the municipal People’s Committee to coordinate with the Ministry of Public Security to promptly investigate the cause of the fire and handle any violations strictly according to the law. He also requested immediate material and emotional support for the victims’ families to help them recover and stabilize their lives.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Deputy PM Nguyen Hoa Binh, on behalf of the Government, extended their deepest condolences to the families of the victims.

On July 7, Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Nguyen Van Nen and Chairman of the People’s Committee Phan Van Mai visited the families to offer their condolences. They also instructed relevant agencies to provide timely assistance and strengthen fire safety inspections at high-risk residential buildings.
