Chairman Nguyen Duc Chung: Together protect the environment from the smallest thing

"The woman, the housewives instead of using a plastic glove, please use the bag, the basket with natural ingredients that is easy to destroy. Enterprises should be directed to use the technology, products that is environmentally friendly, with low fuel consumption", Chairman Nguyen Duc Chung urged.

Speaking at the launching ceremony and in response to World Environment Day taking place on June 5, 2016, Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee Nguyen Duc Chung said that the event "World Environment Day" initiated by UN environment in the early 70s of the last century increasingly promote positiveness and effectiveness.

People from more than 100 countries have enthusiastically responded to the event, including Vietnam. This year, under theme “Nature’s Call and Our Actions”, United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) desire World Environment Day (June 5) to inspire people around the world to take action to prevent the strain on Earth’s natural systems from reaching breaking point. In response, Hanoi, the heart of the country also actively participated in the "Month of action for the environment."

Launching Ceremony response to World Environment Day 2016 will be the opening day for "Month of action for the environment" throughout the City. Districts, towns, organizations and units in the City will organize meaningful activities, practically connecting to "Year of Order & Urban Civilization 2016".

This year’s theme is the fight against illegal wildlife trade, which erodes the precious biodiversity and threatens the survival of awe-inspiring species, such as elephants, rhinos and tigers, as well as other creatures that are less celebrated.

Speaking at the ceremony, Hanoi People’s Committee Chairman Nguyen Duc Chung urged local authorities at all levels, businesses and residents to join hands to protect the environment. He also announced to the public the city’s website for environment protection at “thudoxanhsachdep.gov.vn”. After the event, the city’s leaders, delegates and youths together planted trees and cleaned public places around Hoan Kiem Lake.

On the same day, 30 districts and towns of Hanoi city kicked off their activities in response to World Environment Day. Their residents planted trees, collected waste, cleaned sewage and removed illegal wall advertisements. A children’s drawing competition for environment protection was also co-organised by the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union Central Committee and its Hanoi chapter and Nhi Dong (Children) Newspaper to raise children’s awareness of environmental issues.

Chairman Nguyen Duc Chung called for: We, the citizens of the beloved Capital, decided to build a Green - Clean - Beautiful - Civilized and Friendly Hanoi, a beautiful Hanoi in the eyes of people throughout the country and international friends.

On behalf of the leaders of Hanoi, Chairman Nguyen Duc Chung called for all the city's residents; all departments and agencies; districts and towns; political organizations and social organizations; businesses just actively participating in World Environment Day 2016 with the specific employment action.

Every family, every institution, every school will make use of existing space to plant more trees, flowers, bonsai for the Capital; striving that upto 2018, there will be no longer household using firewood around the city and taking practical right action to protect the environment.

"Every person should take action for ourselves, for a future Capital of green, clean and beautiful," Chairman Nguyen Duc Chung expressed his wish.
