Hanoi expects to be among the world’s most attractive destinations
A groundbreaking ceremony for the Sun Group-invested Kim Quy cultural, tourism and amusement park in Vinh Ngoc commune in Hanoi’s suburban district of Dong Anh on September 2 last year reaffirmed determination of the city’s authorities to turn it into a world-class destination.
Hanoi currently has five large-scale parks, including Thu Le, Thong Nhat, Hoa Binh, Nghia Do, and Cau Giay.
Hanoi held a groundbreaking ceremony on September 2 last year to construct the Sun Group-invested Kim Quy cultural, tourism and amusement park in Vinh Ngoc commune in Hanoi’s suburban district of Dong Anh, which is expected to create a new momentum for tourism development in the capital city.
198-hectare Kim Quy (Golden Turtle) Amusement Park is inspired by Disneyland Hong Kong, in Dong Anh district.
The amusement park is one of the 25 parks that will be built in the capital in the next five years. Five of these parks will reach international standards.
This will be the first time Hanoi has accommodated an international-level park both imitating the historical legend and imbued with unique cultural identities of the land with a thousand-year-old culture.
The Kim Quy (Golden Turtle) Park will be built on an area of more than 100 hectares at initial costs of VND4.6 trillion (US$209 million), featuring both traditional culture of Hanoi and the modern design of Universal Studios and Disneyland.
Designed by ITEC Group, a world-leading US company specialising in designing parks, the park will have trees and water faces arranged in a spiral shape with inspiration from the legend of the Co Loa spiral-shaped citadel (located in Dong Anh district), which was built by King An Duong Vuong in the third century BC with the help of the Golden Turtle God.
The Kim Quy Park will have a garden of green trees and a public park, giving open space for visitors to enjoy the nature and participate in outdoor activities. Beside modern games applying cutting-edge of technology, the park also comprises an art area and a Kim Quy cultural village to host large-scale art shows.
Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Chung said that Kim Quy, as well as the four other international-standard parks, would be attractive destinations for visitors, offering modern entertainment facilities.
Accordingn to Chairman Chung, the building of parks is necessary because the city at present has been lacking green areas with green trees, lakes, and entertainment areas. Along with building parks, the city plans to plant more than one million trees by 2020, expecting to create a greener home for city dwellers.
According to the Hanoi Capital Construction Master Plan to 2030 with vision to 2050 issued in March 2014, Hanoi will have 60 parks and urban flower gardens, including 18 new and enhancing 42 existing parks and urban flower units.
Being a world-famous amusement park and resort system, Disneyland are present in six countries, including the US, France, Japan, Hong Kong, China, and the Bahamas.
The municipal Department of Planning and Architecture said that in the next 5 years, Hanoi will call for investment in 11 parks projects with a capital of 36,800 billion VND.
Along with building large-scale parks, Hanoi has been gradually realizing the goal of bringing tourism into a spearhead economic sector by 2020 with the practical and effective actions, such as the recent pilot of expanding more walking streets around Hoan Kiem Lake, extend the "curfew" in the Old Quarters, the plan of planting more than one million trees by 2020.
These works have been contributing to improve the attractiveness and competitiveness of the country’s tourism in general and Hanoi city in particular.
