Hanoi hosts APEC 2017 SOM 2 with thorough preparations

The Capital city of Hanoi is hosting the second APEC Senior Officials’ Meeting and related meetings which begin on May 9. The event is said to be the chance for Hanoi to showcase its dynamic development and hospitality.

Two thousand international delegates registered to attend the events under the theme “Creating new dynamism, fostering a shared future”.

In the framework of APEC SOM 2, fourty nine meetings, workshops  by the committees and working groups will take place and cover a range of issues including  trade and investment liberalisation, business facilitation, human resources development, education, network economy, women and the economy, food safety, science-technology and innovation, mining, automobile industry and urbanisation, among others. 

They include a meeting of the Mining Task Force chaired by the Ministry of Industry and Trade, a meeting of the Sub-Committee on Standards and Conformance, a food safety cooperation forum, a seminar on export certification, and meetings of the Group of Friends on Disability Issues and the APEC Policy Partnership on Women and the Economy. 

The SOM 2 and related meetings will last till May 21, focusing discussions on trade and investment liberalisation, business facilitation, human resources development, education, network economy, women and the economy, food safety, science-technology and innovation, mining, automobile industry and urbanisation, among others. They will also look into how to promote key cooperation agenda and priorities adopted at the SOM 1 and outline documents to submit to senior officials in November 2017 and ministerial meetings this year.

The government of Hanoi has instructed the city’s Department of Foreign Affairs to address any issue that may arise in coordination with the APEC 2017 National Secretariat. Other departments including that of  Culture and Sports, Information and Communications, Tourism, Hanoi Center for Investment, Trade and Tourism are also instructed to provide timely collaboration.
