Hanoi Party chief pays New Year visits to former leaders
Ahead of Tet, Hanoi Party Secretary Nguyen Duy Ngoc has paid New Year visits to former national and city leaders in the capital, combining traditional greetings with a message of Hanoi’s development ambitions.
THE HANOI TIMES — Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee Nguyen Duy Ngoc on February 10 paid New Year visits to former senior Party and State leaders residing in the capital, in a gesture marking the Lunar New Year.

Nguyen Duy Ngoc, accompanied by Standing Vice Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee Nguyen Van Phong and other city leaders, visited former General Secretary Nong Duc Manh at his private residence.
During the meeting, the Hanoi Party chief inquired about Nong Duc Manh’s health and extended New Year wishes of good health, peace and prosperity to the former leader and his family. He expressed gratitude for former General Secretary Nong Duc Manh’s significant contributions to the Party, the nation and Hanoi’s long-term development.
Ngoc said the former General Secretary’s experience and counsel remain valuable as Hanoi and the country enter a new stage of development.
For his part, Manh welcomed the visit and praised Hanoi’s recent progress, voicing confidence that under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the capital and the country would continue to achieve comprehensive gains in the coming period.
Earlier, on February 8 and 9, Ngoc also visited several former senior leaders of the Party, State and Hanoi, including former Politburo members and former National Assembly Chairpersons Nguyen Van An, Nguyen Sinh Hung and Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan.

The meetings were held in a warm and respectful atmosphere, focusing on health, family life and shared reflections, underscoring the appreciation of Hanoi’s Party organization, authorities and people for previous generations of leaders.
Ngoc briefed the former leaders on the capital’s socio-economic performance, saying Hanoi recorded significant achievements over the past year, creating momentum for a new development phase in step with national progress.
He said the city is accelerating its action program to implement the Resolution of the 14th National Party Congress, built around three strategic pillars: institutional reform, urban planning and a renewed development model, guided by a 100-year vision.
"Hanoi’s Party organization and people are determined to fulfill key political tasks and contribute to the country’s goals of rapid and sustainable growth, as well as the successful realization of its two centennial milestones," said Ngoc.
On the occasion of Lunar New Year 2026, Ngoc extended his best wishes to former Party, State and city leaders and their families, wishing them good health, peace and prosperity.
The former leaders expressed appreciation for the visits and welcomed the country’s and the capital’s recent achievements, voicing confidence that following the success of the 14th National Party Congress, Vietnam and Hanoi would enter a new stage of development marked by further progress and accomplishments.
