Hanoi launches e-invoice management system

Around 180,000 enterprises and business households in Hanoi are expected to benefit from a shift towards e-invoices.

The General Department of Taxation on October 25 launched the management center of e-invoice at six provinces/cities under the pilot program, with Hanoi among the first locality joining the initiative.

“The move is a key step in modernizing the tax administration, in turn improving the business environment for greater economic competitiveness in Hanoi and the establishment of the digital economy,” Director of the Hanoi Tax Department Mai Son stressed the view at the launch from Hanoi, along with tax departments at Ho Chi Minh City, Haiphong, Quang Ninh, Binh Dinh and Phu Tho.

“E-invoicing saves time and cost which was proven during the previous periods when 99% of businesses and organizations in Hanoi adopted it,” said Son, adding 65% of them have already been using e-invoices.

Given the significance of promoting e-invoices in tax management, Son noted the local tax department has actively participated in drafting e-invoicing procedures, along with raising public awareness about its benefits.

According to Son, a center on the implementation of e-invoice has been set up at Hanoi’s Department of Taxation and is fully incorporated into the management system at the General Department of Taxation.

“We expect the system to operate efficiently to ensure smooth connection among taxpayers, local tax authorities, and the general department in three aspects of legal instruction, support, and addressing feedback,” he added.

Such a move, as Son said, would be able to handle taxpayers’ concerns better and promote the use of e-invoices.

Son said the local tax department would continue to support businesses and individuals in using e-invoices, as well as ensuring the smooth operation of the center.

“Around 180,000 enterprises and business households in Hanoi are expected to benefit from a shift towards e-invoicing,” Son suggested.

Director of the General Department of Taxation Cao Anh Tuan said e-invoices would later be adopted at 57 provinces/cities following the successful pilot implementation in six cities.

The Hanoi Department of Taxation in early September launched the mobile app on tax payment, which provides locals with the function of searching for tax information and supports different payment methods via its link with various mobile banking apps.

The move is part of the local agency’s efforts to digitalize tax management from now until 2022 under the instruction of the Ministry of Finance and the Hanoi People’s Committee, targeting to become one of the top tax agencies in the country in terms of digitalization, IT application, and cyber-security.
