Light Gate, a design by a group of young lecturers from the Hanoi University of Architecture, won the contest on Hanoi's zero milestone marker design.
The winning design for the zero-milestone marker will be placed in the yard in front of the Ly Thai To Statue, next to the Town Hall, according to the organizing board.

A contest, launched a month ago to find the best design for the zero milestone marker, ended on July 20 with an awarding ceremony. There were 105 entries sent from across the country.
According to the jury, the winning entry must be the one which is feasible, sustainable, friendly and harmonious with the surrounding landscape.
The winners said that they chose the front yard of Ly Thai To Statue to place the marker because it tells many historical stories, underlining on the millennial cultural tradition of the capital city.
The winning feature of the design is the use of holographic art to create a 3D visual with a hologram projector placed under the plaque. The visual is changeable, either Hanoi logo or the map of Vietnam, among others.

Meanwhile, the third prize consisting of a monument erected in the middle of the Sword Lake was evaluated as unique and romantic, but it could distort Ho Guom landscape.
The installment of the plaque marking the zero milestone is slated to begin in October on the occasion of the commemoration of the liberation of Hanoi from the French army and the 1010 anniversary of Thang Long-Hanoi.
