According to the Vietnam Green Building Market Overview 2024, Vietnam now has 559 green-certified buildings with a total floor area of 13.6 million square meters, far exceeding the original targets of 80 by 2025 and 160 by 2030.
In 2024, the number of certified buildings reached 163, doubling from the previous year.
Experts note that although Vietnam entered the green building movement later than many regional countries, progress has been rapid in recent years.
Under Decree No.15/2021, green buildings must meet specific standards in design, construction and operation to ensure energy efficiency, resource conservation and environmental protection.
Green projects are expected to help reduce 74.3 million tons of CO2 emissions by 2030 in the construction sector, supporting Vietnam’s net-zero target for 2050.
Ho Chi Minh City led in certified green floor area in 2024 with 3.4 million square meters, followed by Hanoi, Haiphong and Bac Ninh.
