Hanoi warned of thunderstorms and lightning on September 30 afternoon

Forecasters urged residents in Hanoi to stay alert as severe thunderstorms and lightning pose risks to safety and property in multiple districts.

THE HANOI TIMES — The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting (NCHMF) has warned that from 4 PM to 7 PM on September 30, several inner-city districts of Hanoi will experience heavy showers and thunderstorms, with risks of whirlwinds, lightning and strong winds.

Satellite imagery, lightning detection data and radar readings show strong convective clouds developing over areas including Hong Ha, Bo De, Hai Ba Trung, Bach Mai, Vinh Tuy, Phuong Liet, Tuong Mai, Hoang Mai, Van Mieu–Quoc Tu Giam, Dong Da and Yen So.

Nguyen Van Huong, Head of the NCHMF’s Weather Forecasting Department, told the Vietnam News Agency that such extreme weather poses threats to life and property. He advised residents to seek shelter in sturdy buildings during storms and remain vigilant.

The NCHMF urged the public to monitor updates on its website (nchmf.gov.vn) and official media outlets to stay prepared for sudden weather developments.
