Hanoi welcomes heroic mothers in heartfelt tribute on 80th National Day

In the first eight months of this year alone, Hanoi paid nearly $100 million to people who made merits to the nation.

THE HANOI TIMES — Hanoi’s leadership has shown its tribute to Heroic Vietnamese Mothers and national contributors, demonstrating the capital’s enduring spirit of gratitude.

Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Tran Sy Thanh on September 1 delivered heartfelt greetings to seven Heroic Mothers, including four from Hanoi and three representing the northern, central and southern regions.

He extended warm wishes of health, longevity and happiness on behalf of the city’s government, affirming the enduring gratitude of the capital.

“The people of Hanoi will always remember the sacrifices made for independence and freedom,” Chairman Thanh said, recalling that every street and corner of the city bears marks of history written in sacrifice.

He vowed that the city would continue to prioritize the welfare of people with meritorious services, honoring the moral duty of “when drinking water, remember its source.”

Between January and August, Hanoi allocated VND2.58 trillion (US$98 million) to support 76,462 individuals and families with meritorious contributions.

Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Truong Viet Dung presented flowers and gifts to Heroes of the Armed Forces, Labor Heroes, wounded soldiers and revolutionary prisoners from Hanoi, Quang Tri and Phu Tho. They are individuals who played pivotal roles in the nation’s struggle for reunification.

In a touching moment, Heroic Mother Nguyen Thi Diem, from Chuong Duong Commune, Hanoi, expressed her pride in witnessing this meaningful event. She vowed to continue encouraging her grandchildren to contribute to the capital’s development.

Similarly, Hero Tran Manh Hien, a Hero of the People’s Armed Forces, spoke of his honor at being recognized and reaffirmed that the peace Vietnam enjoys today is built upon the blood and valor of martyrs and Heroic Mothers.

As the tribute concluded, the room resonated with warmth and unity, demonstrating Hanoi’s commitment to remembering the past and honoring those who shaped the nation.

Hanoi is a city where the streets themselves breathe history. From the day President Ho Chi Minh proclaimed independence at Ba Dinh Square in 1945 to the bustling, neon-lit boulevards of today, every road has carried the footsteps, hopes, and struggles of its people. Eighty years on, those same streets bear witness not only to a nation’s liberation but also to its remarkable transformation from mud paths and oil lamps to metro lines, skyscrapers, and smart city dreams.
