Homeland Spring 2026 unites local and overseas Vietnamese around peace, prosperity vision

A major cultural program in Hanoi brought together overseas Vietnamese from around the world, highlighting national unity, cultural identity and Vietnam’s aspirations for peace and sustainable development.

THE HANOI TIMES — The 2026 Xuan Que Huong (Homeland Spring) art program took place on February 8 to connect Vietnamese people across the country and around the world and affirm the truth that Vietnam is one nation, with all Vietnamese sharing common roots.

Themed “Vietnam’s Aspiration: Peace and Prosperity”, the event brought together about 1,500 outstanding overseas Vietnamese from around the world, spreading the message of great national unity and underscoring that overseas Vietnamese remain an inseparable part of the nation and a constant partner of the homeland.

The event continued to demonstrate the Party’s and the State’s care and responsibility toward overseas Vietnamese, fostering patriotism and connection to national roots while encouraging the preservation of culture, traditions and language, strengthening trust and inspiring contributions to sustainable national development.

It conveyed the country’s vision and development goals in a new phase, reflected the Vietnamese nation’s strong drive to rise, achieve sustainable development and deeper international integration and develop a fast-growing, resilient and sustainable country where all people, including overseas Vietnamese, can fully contribute their talents and ambitions.

The event also honored the significant contributions of overseas Vietnamese and encouraged continued engagement in national development during the new era.

The program featured three chapters, titled “The Swallows Return”, “Hanoi – Faith and Hope” and “Vietnam’s Aspiration: Peace and Prosperity”. Together, they formed an emotional journey of Vietnamese people who travel far and return to their roots, Tet memories and national identity.

The performances highlighted love for the homeland, national pride and the desire to build the country, expressing confidence in Vietnam’s future and deep respect for its cultural and historical heritage.

President Luong Cuong beats the drum to open the event.

The program served as a spiritual reunion where past, present and future converged, allowing every Vietnamese person, wherever they live, to feel a deep connection to the homeland.

On the world map, the S-shaped country continues to rise with a strong drive for rapid and sustainable development, innovation, creativity and deep international integration toward a prosperous and happy future.

As Vietnamese people at home and abroad joined hands and shared trust, intellect and dedication, future springs will allow every Vietnamese, wherever they are, to proudly say, “I am Vietnamese.”

Opening the program, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Thi Thu Hang said the country achieved many historically significant accomplishments over the past year.

She said the overseas Vietnamese community of more than 6.5 million people in over 130 countries and territories remains far from home but never distant from the nation, always turning toward Vietnam with trust and hope.

Wherever they live, study and work, overseas Vietnamese continue to preserve national cultural identity, integrate into host societies and make meaningful contributions to national construction and defense, Hang said.

She added that overseas Vietnamese have shared hardships with people at home and helped strengthen understanding and ties between Vietnam and countries and peoples around the world.

Beating the ceremonial opening drum and celebrating with overseas Vietnamese, President Luong Cuong said he feels deeply moved to welcome compatriots from around the world back for 2026 Homeland Spring.

He extended warm regards and New Year wishes to people at home and abroad, overseas Vietnamese and distinguished guests.

The president said the Year of the Snake in 2025 marked a period of major achievements, including key national anniversaries, alongside governance reforms and development restructuring that created momentum toward long-term national goals.

He said that under the Party’s leadership and through the determination of the entire people and armed forces, Vietnam had overcome difficulties and achieved comprehensive and breakthrough results.

Independence, sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity remained secure, while the economy sustained one of the highest growth rates in the region, defense and security strengthened, political and social stability held firm and living standards improved, he said.

Cuong added that social welfare policies expanded widely, including efforts to eliminate substandard housing, rebuild homes for disaster-affected communities and construct schools in border areas.

Abroad, overseas Vietnamese continued to serve as bridges for friendship, cooperation and development, integrated more deeply into host societies, strengthened their standing and contributed valuable resources to the homeland, the president said.

He noted that during difficult times, overseas Vietnamese worldwide consistently turned toward the homeland, showing solidarity and providing timely support to disaster-hit communities.

On behalf of the State and the people, Cuong expressed deep appreciation for the responsibility, affection and meaningful contributions of overseas Vietnamese toward the country and their compatriots.

The president said Vietnam’s long-term development relies on many factors, including a vital and enduring flow of aspiration, which is the nation’s spiritual core and a powerful force, driving the country over challenges and stronger.

As Vietnam enters 2026, the first year implementing the resolution of the 14th National Party Congress, President Luong Cuong said the country moves confidently into a new development era.

The entire Party, people and armed forces remain determined to implement the congress resolution and the national development strategy through 2030, with peace supporting sustainable growth and prosperity improving people’s lives, he said.

President Luong Cuong called on all Vietnamese, at home and abroad, to turn national aspiration into reality through unity and solidarity.

Quoting President Ho Chi Minh, he urged continued efforts to strengthen great national unity and contribute intellect, resources and dedication to building and defending the country, saying every contribution helps lay the foundation for a peaceful and prosperous Vietnam.
