Vietnam becomes Singapore’s 3rd largest seafood supplier in 2025

Vietnamese seafood continues to gain strong momentum globally, driven by rising exports, diversified products, and a growing presence in key markets like Singapore.

THE HANOI TIMES — Vietnam has overtaken Norway to become Singapore’s 3rd largest seafood supplier, with US$44.7 million worth of seafood exports in the first half of 2025, up 10.8% year-on-year.

Exports were led by chilled or frozen fish fillets and fish meat that brought about $22.7 million.

Crustaceans and mollusks also recorded strong growth, earning $9.8 million (up 13.3%) and $5.6 million (up 172.1%), respectively.

According to Cao Xuan Thang, Vietnam’s Trade Counselor in Singapore, Vietnam's seafood exports to Singapore surged after late 2024. The country surpassed Japan and China to rank fourth in the first quarter, then climbed to third place by midyear.

Data from the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP) revealed that national seafood exports amounted to around US$5.3 billion during the same period, indicating a 20% year-on-year increase.

China, the United States, and Japan remained Vietnam’s top three seafood markets, accounting for 19.6%, 18.2%, and 15% of the total export value, respectively.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment has set a target for Vietnam’s seafood exports to reach $11 billion in 2025, a projected growth of 10%-15% compared to 2024.
