Vietnam, Cuba strengthen legal cooperation to implement key projects

The week-long visit by Cuban National Assembly Chairman to Vietnam marks a key step in implementing high-level agreements with a focus on developing key projects.

These efforts take place within the framework of comprehensive cooperation between the two National Assemblies, contributing to the development of economic and trade ties, science and technology and high-tech agriculture.

This cooperative approach was highlighted during the official visit of Cuban National Assembly Chairman Esteban Lazo Hernández to Vietnam from September 30 to October 5, at the invitation of Chairman of National Assembly Tran Thanh Man.

The visit, the high-level trip following Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez’s state visit last month reaffirmed the enduring Vietnam–Cuba friendship.

During the week-long visit, Chairman Lazo Hernández will co-chair the 2nd session of the Vietnam–Cuba Inter-parliamentary Cooperation Committee in Hanoi.

The session will review the outcomes of the first session in Havana, assess prior recommendations and explore ways to strengthen parliamentary ties.

In a cordial atmosphere, the two chairmen discussed national developments, parliamentary activities and ways to strengthen the special, comprehensive Vietnam–Cuba partnership, while addressing international issues.

Chairman Tran Thanh Man welcomed the visit during Vietnam’s major anniversaries, including Vietnam’s 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day and the 65th anniversary of Vietnam–Cuba diplomatic relations.

He expressed confidence it would deepen parliamentary ties. Chairman Lazo Hernández congratulated Vietnam on its achievements and reaffirmed trust in its continued success.

Both leaders agreed to boost delegation exchanges, enhance parliamentary cooperation and expand collaboration in trade, investment, science and technology and high-tech agriculture, stressing legal support for businesses, oversight of key projects and youth education on bilateral friendship.

Chairman Lazo Hernández also met President Luong Cuong, who praised the visit’s significance and expressed confidence it would strengthen solidarity and comprehensive cooperation, reaffirming Vietnam’s commitment to deepen economic and trade ties in the 65th anniversary year of diplomatic relations.

Commenting on the Cuban parliament leader’s visit, Vietnamese Ambassador to Cuba Le Quang Long described it as a landmark that both continued and concretized high-level agreements while promoting substantive cooperation across multiple fields.

Meanwhile, Cuban Ambassador to Vietnam Rogelio Polanco Fuentes emphasized that Cuba regards Vietnam as a heroic model and historical example, praising the close coordination between the two parliaments.

He highlighted the inter-parliamentary mechanism’s key role in implementing agreements and strengthening the bilateral relationship.

The visit of Chairman Lazo Hernández demonstrates the enduring and special friendship between Vietnam and Cuba, opening prospects for deeper cooperation across sectors, marking a priceless asset both nations are committed to preserving and developing.
