President urges vigilance, innovation in national defense

At the 6th session of the National Defense and Security Council, President Luong Cuong called on ministries to closely monitor strategic developments and provide timely policy recommendations in response to global uncertainties. He stressed the need for effective implementation of the 13th Party Central Committee’s resolution on national defense, while advancing digital transformation and scientific innovation to build a proactive and comprehensive defense posture.

Laos studies expressway linking to Vietnam

The Lao Government and Phongsavanh Group have signed an MoU to launch a 24-month feasibility study on the Vientiane–Namsoi expressway, a key route to Vietnam. The project aims to boost regional connectivity, drive economic growth, and advance Laos’ long-term transport and investment strategy.

Vietnam exports frozen durian to China

Vietnam has officially exported its first batch of frozen durian to China under a bilateral protocol signed in August 2024. Cleared through strict inspection at the Dongxing border crossing, the shipment will be delivered to Chinese food processors. The move marks a milestone in expanding agricultural trade, with China importing over US$5 billion worth of Vietnamese farm produce in early 2025.

Vietnam seeks to boost agricultural imports from the US

Vietnam is seeking to import more key agrarian products from the US, including meat, dairy products, fertilizers, and timber. In celebration of the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations, both countries are working to strengthen supply chain cooperation, technology transfer, and sustainable, inclusive rural development.

Visits to Ninh Binh double 

From May 23 to 31, around 485,000 visitors, including over 120,000 international tourists, came to Ninh Binh for its Tourism Week 2025, marking a 97% increase from 2024. The event featured cultural shows, photo tours, and the Forestival music festival to highlight the Trang An World Heritage Site and promote Ninh Binh as a friendly, attractive destination, aiming to boost its global tourism profile.

Quang Ninh sets goal of 20 million tourists this year

Quang Ninh, home to the UNESCO-listed Ha Long Bay, welcomed 9.1 million visitors in the first five months of 2025 as it targets 20 million for the year, including 4.5 million international arrivals. To reach this goal, the province is ramping up infrastructure, refining tourism policies, developing new offerings, and enhancing digital promotion.

Lam Dong to launch electric bus network in Q3

Starting in Q3 2025, the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong will launch electric bus services on four intra-provincial routes as part of its push for greener public transport. Phuong Trang Company plans to deploy 30-seat electric buses and build charging stations in cities including Da Lat and Bao Loc. The infrastructure is expected to be ready by the third quarter, supporting the province’s sustainability goals.
