Vietnam pushes for sustainable peace in Gaza as Board of Peace founding member
As one of the first countries to recognize the State of Palestine, Vietnam welcomes all efforts aimed at bringing sustainable peace to the Gaza Strip for the benefit of the Palestinian people in respect for international laws and the United Nations Charter.
THE HANOI TIMES — As a founding member of the Gaza Board of Peace, Vietnam will work closely with other members to implement the peace plan for the Gaza Strip, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Pham Thu Hang said on January 29.
The move aims to help end the conflict and promote sustainable peace in the Middle East, based on the two-state solution, international laws, the UN Charter and relevant UN resolutions, Hang said at the ministry’s monthly press briefing.

On January 28, the Gaza Board of Peace posted images on its X account welcoming Vietnam and other countries as founding members. The US Embassy in Vietnam also described the board as a growing international organization and welcomed Vietnam’s participation.
Hang reaffirmed Vietnam’s long-standing position of supporting peaceful settlement of conflicts through international cooperation, in line with international law and with respect for the legitimate rights of all parties.
She said Vietnam’s decision reflects its commitment to lasting peace in Gaza, noting that Vietnam was among the first countries to recognize the State of Palestine.
“Vietnam welcomes all efforts to bring sustainable peace to the Gaza Strip, for the benefit of the Palestinian people, on the basis of respect for international laws and the United Nations Charter,” Hang said.
Vietnam supports the peace plan adopted by the UN Security Council under Resolution 2803 on November 17, 2025 and accepted an invitation to join the board to help implement the plan, she added.
The Gaza Board of Peace initiative was introduced by US President Donald Trump in early January 2026.
On January 22, a Vietnamese delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son attended the signing ceremony of the board’s founding charter on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in Davos, Switzerland at the invitation of President Trump.
Earlier, Party General Secretary To Lam confirmed Vietnam’s participation, saying the country was ready to act as a founding member and work with the United States and the international community toward a long-term solution to the Middle East peace process, including the establishment of a Palestinian state living peacefully alongside Israel.
Nguyen Hoang Nguyen, Minister-Counsellor and Chargé d’Affaires ad interim of Vietnam’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations, said the decision reflects the country’s intention to contribute practically to efforts toward a fair and sustainable resolution of the Gaza conflict, post-war reconstruction and broader regional peace.
“Those efforts are in line with international law, the UN Charter and relevant resolutions, including UN Security Council Resolution 2803,” Nguyen said.
Besides Vietnam, the Gaza Board of Peace includes 19 other members, among them the United States, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Morocco, Argentina, Bulgaria, Hungary, Indonesia and Jordan.
