Vietnam's president attends 80th anniversary of victory over fascism

President Luong Cuong’s attendance shows Vietnam’s appreciation of freedom and peace, respect for global sacrifices, and commitment to an independent, proactive foreign policy for peace and development.

Cuong's presence came at the invitation of Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China and President of the People’s Republic of China.

The victory over fascism in 1945 opened a new chapter in world political history, leading to the founding of the United Nations and laying down fundamental principles of international relations.

These principles include respect for equality, sovereignty and self-determination of countries, peaceful settlement of disputes, non-use of force, and respect for international laws.

Despite the passage of 80 years with many upheavals, this victory continues to be honored by peace-loving people worldwide as a solid foundation for today’s sustainable development.

For Vietnam, which experienced long and arduous struggles for national independence, the commemoration holds profound meaning.

The Vietnamese people deeply value independence, freedom and peace, and share respect for the sacrifices of nations in the fight against fascism and oppression.

President Luong Cuong’s attendance at the ceremony demonstrates Vietnam’s responsible voice in supporting the efforts of the international community for peace, security and development.

It also affirms Vietnam’s foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, diversification, multilateralization and proactive international integration.

Before the ceremony, President Luong Cuong attended the official welcome and group photo session hosted by General Secretary and President Xi Jinping and First Lady Peng Liyuan.
