Vietnam welcomes Belt and Road cooperation and connectivity

The Vietnam-China friendship has recently witnessed positive developments under various frameworks for cooperation and connectivity between Vietnam and China in general and the Belt and Road Initiative in particular.

Vietnam welcomes initiatives aimed at enhancing regional connectivity and fostering economic cooperation, including high-quality infrastructure projects under the Belt and Road Initiative.

Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Pham Thu Hang shared this view at a press conference today [September 14], responding to a reporter's question on Vietnam-China cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative.

She added that Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung attended the 8th Belt and Road Summit in Hong Kong, China, on September 13-14.

"Vietnam welcomes initiatives promoting regional connectivity and economic cooperation based on the principles of equality, mutual cooperation, respect, and adherence to international law and the United Nations Charter. These initiatives aim to achieve common development and prosperity among nations," Hang said.

The two governments signed a memorandum of understanding to jointly promote and link Vietnam's Two Corridors-One Belt framework with the Belt and Road Initiative.

Over the years, Vietnamese and Chinese businesses have actively transported goods along the corridor, stretching from Chongqing in China through Vietnam and some ASEAN countries to Central Asia and Europe.

"We expect that the Belt and Road Initiative will continue to help strengthen economic ties and regional connectivity, support regional countries in infrastructure development and market expansion, and narrow the development gap between nations. This will create new opportunities for businesses and people in the region and around the world," Hang stressed.

In addition, the Foreign Ministry spokesperson said that during a recent meeting between Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Chinese Premier Li Qiang, both sides agreed to promote strategic connectivity and cooperation in building high-quality infrastructure projects under the Belt and Road Initiative.

This includes improving road connectivity and building a multimodal, highly efficient, and sustainable logistics system. These efforts are expected to create new opportunities for businesses and citizens of both countries while contributing positively to regional and global peace, stability, and prosperity, she noted.
