Spokeswoman of the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs Pham Thu Hang said on July 29 in response to reporters' questions on Vietnam's reaction following the immediate ceasefire between the two ASEAN neighboring countries.

In another move, Hang said that Vietnam commended Malaysia, in its capacity as 2025 ASEAN Chair, for its constructive role in facilitating a peaceful resolution of disputes in accordance with international law, the United Nations Charter, the ASEAN Charter, and the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia, in the spirit of ASEAN unity and solidarity.

Vietnam expresses confidence that both parties will fully implement the ceasefire, continue dialogue, and seek peaceful solutions to outstanding issues, contributing to regional and global peace, stability, and development, Hang said.

Tensions between Thailand and Cambodia have escalated since May. Both sides have ramped up troop deployments and imposed retaliatory economic measures.

In recent days, the situation has further deteriorated with reports of rocket fire, airstrikes, and landmine explosions, resulting in casualties and the downgrading of diplomatic relations.
