THE HANOI TIMES — The Ministry of Construction has reported the government a development plan for Chu Lai Airport which is designed to be a logistics hub for the fast-growing Danang.

By 2050, the airport’s total area will expand to nearly 2,100 hectares, with the addition of Terminals T3 and T4. A dedicated cargo zone will also be developed to process up to 3 million tons of cargo a year.
The Airports Corporation of Vietnam has committed to preparing a capital plan and investing in key infrastructure once the master plan is approved.
The ministry is currently collecting feedback from Danang authorities to finalize the investment proposal and submit it to the Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh by August 2025.
At a recent meeting with the ministry, Danang city leaders highlighted the importance of the Chu Lai Airport and the upgrading of the Danang Airport for their role in the region’s long-term transportation strategy.
Experts believe that transforming Chu Lai into a modern international airport will unlock new opportunities for central Vietnam, particularly amid ongoing discussions about administrative boundary expansion and provincial mergers.
In addition to easing pressure on Danang Airport, Chu Lai is expected to serve as a strategic driver for regional growth in industry, logistics, and tourism.
Chu Lai Airport welcomed its first commercial flight in 2005. It currently features a 3,050-meter runway and a passenger terminal capable of accommodating aircraft such as the Airbus A320 and A321.
