Some 11 million international arrivals to Vietnam in H1/2025

The growth in international arrivals signals renewed confidence in the market.

THE HANOI TIMES — The number of international visitors to Vietnam increased by 20% to nearly 11 million in the first half (H1) of 2025, according to the General Statistics Office.

The figure was also up 26% compared to H1/2019, which was Vietnam’s pre-pandemic peak.

Air travel accounted for the majority of entries, with nearly 9.1 million arrivals, while land border crossings totaled almost 1.4 million.

Northeast Asia remained Vietnam’s largest source market, making up 60% of total arrivals. Mainland China led with over 2.7 million visitors, followed by South Korea with more than 2.2 million.

Vietnam targets 22-23 million international visitors this year, a number that local travel companies are confident Vietnam will reach, as many foreign tourists are expected to arrive in the last quarter (October–December) to avoid winter in their home countries.

According to the World Tourism Barometer and the UN Tourism, Vietnam had the sixth-highest growth in international tourist arrivals worldwide.

Among Asia-Pacific countries, Vietnam was the best performer, followed by Japan and Palau.

It was also the second-best recovering country in the global tourism industry, with international arrivals in 2024 increasing by 34% compared to 2019.
