At the meeting with Rebecca Jovin, Head of the UN Office for Disarmament Affairs (UNODA) in Vienna, Ambassador Hoang pledged that Vietnam will adhere to the three principles: non-proliferation, nuclear disarmament, and the peaceful use of nuclear technology.
The meeting sought to strengthen bilateral cooperation between Vietnam and the UNODA as the country prepares to serve as President-designate of the 11th Review Conference of the Parties to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons and its Preparatory Committee (NPT RevCon 11), scheduled to take place in April–May 2026 in New York.
The ambassador proposed closer cooperation between UNODA and Vietnam through regular dialogue, support for its NPT presidency, and joint events, in addition to thematic workshops on NPT implementation.
For her part, UNDOA Head Rebecca Jovin praised Vietnam’s active role in multilateral forums, especially amidst the uncertain developments of the global geopolitical background.
She expressed confidence in Ambassador Do Hung Viet’s leadership as President of the NPT RevCon 11. Ambassador Viet is Permanent Representative of Vietnam to the United Nations.
Rebecca also pledged close cooperation to ensure the conference’s success. She promised to give the Vietnamese delegation full support during the event.
The NPT took effect in 1970. Currently, 191 countries have agreed to join the treaty, including the five permanent members of the UN Security Council with veto power (China, France, Russia, the United Kingdom, and the United States).
Vietnam joined the NPT in 1982, demonstrating its consistent stance on promoting global peace, security, and sustainable development.
