Vietnam’s Internet speed climbs to global top ten
This achievement reflects Vietnam’s strong infrastructure investment and 5G expansion, marking a major leap in global digital connectivity.
THE HANOI TIMES — Vietnam’s fixed Internet speed in August 2025 reached 261.8 Mbps, climbing to 10th place globally, according to Ookla, a US-based network data analytics company.
In just five months, Vietnam rose 23 places, from 33rd with 173.6 Mbps in March to 10th, surpassing Israel, Switzerland, Denmark, Spain and China, while approaching Thailand.
In the mobile segment, Ookla reported that Vietnam recorded 152.17 Mbps in August, ranking 16th worldwide, up from 151.69 Mbps in July.

This achievement stems from the large-scale commercialization of 5G over the past year, which has helped maintain steady growth in mobile Internet speeds.
Telecommunications experts noted that Vietnam’s Internet acceleration is the result of combined international and domestic infrastructure investments.
Since April, Viettel, VNPT and FPT have offered basic packages of 300 Mbps, making high-speed Internet more affordable for users.
Data from the Vietnam Internet Network Center (VNNIC) showed that average fixed broadband speeds increased from below 100 Mbps in February to 271.2 Mbps in August.
Among providers, Viettel led with an average of 381.71 Mbps.
Vietnam currently operates six submarine cable systems, including AAG, IA, AAE-1, APG, ADC, and SJC2, with a total design capacity of 80 Tbps.
Notably, the VSTN terrestrial cable system, owned and operated by Vietnam for the first time, has an initial capacity of 4 Tbps, expandable to 12 Tbps.
The Science and Technology reported that household fiber-optic penetration from January to June reached 85.3%, far surpassing the global average of 60%.
Nguyen Manh Hung, Minister of Science and Technology, said that telecommunications is a strategic national infrastructure, and Vietnam must secure a position among the world’s top five to ten countries.
