Vietnam, Singapore fosters strategic partnership

Vietnam and Singapore have many shared strategic interests and policy priorities, as well as a strong mutual trust.

THE HANOI TIMES — Given the complex developments in the region, Vietnam and Singapore should strengthen their comprehensive strategic partnership, said Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh during his meeting with Chan Chun Sing, Singapore's Assistant Secretary-General of the People's Action Party, Coordinating Minister for Public Services, and Minister of Defense, in Hanoi on July 22.

The government leader called for the prompt completion of the 2025–2030 action program and for expanding cooperation in areas in which both countries excel, such as food security, renewable energy, carbon credit exchange, finance and banking, and education and training.

Vietnam and Singapore elevated the relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in March 2025 with a focus on increasing high-level and multi-channel engagement, strengthening party-to-party ties to build mutual trust and political foundations, considering a regular party dialogue mechanism, and sustaining annual Prime Minister meetings.

Minister Chan Chun Sing said that his visit aims to enhance comprehensive cooperation with Vietnam. He expressed admiration for Vietnam’s recent achievements in maintaining political stability and socioeconomic development.

The Singaporean official voiced strong support for Prime Minister Chinh’s recommendations to enhance economic and investment cooperation in fields such as energy, finance, and supply chains.

He called for maintaining youth exchanges, particularly among potential leaders of the parties and countries, as well as for boosting cooperation in education and training through student exchanges, joint programs, and scholarships.
